Crimping system that features state-of-the-art technology and complies with recognized safety regulations. The crimping tool may only be used in good technical condition, in a safety-conscious manner, taking into account potential hazards, and may only be used for the purpose described in the instructions for use.
The package contains crimped pliers for interchangeable jaws KNIPEX 97 43 200 A, hexagonal key (hex), fixed key.
This package does not continue: pliers/crimping dies - ordered separately depending on the application for which you want to use the pliers and the transport case.
If you want the kit version, you can order it here.
The molds/buckets used by this pliers can be ordered here and here.
Aplications:
- Recommended for setting the connectors used to install photovoltaic systems
- Useful for crimping a wide variety of different contacts: molded contacts, stamped and formed contacts, ferrules, data plugs, etc.
The crimping tool consists of a set of pliers (1) with an adjustment dial (2) and emergency release (3), a split crimp die (4), two set screws (5) for the upper and lower die and (if necessary) a positioning guide (6), locator).
Positioning guides can be retrofitted to match the connector type. The crimping force can be adjusted and should only be performed by trained personnel.
This crimping tool uses a ratchet mechanism. The crimping tool opens automatically only after the last ratchet passes (force completion). In the event of a faulty crimp, the emergency release can be used to open the crimp tool earlier to avoid damage to the crimp die or connector.
Changing the die set/ installing the locator and wire stop
- The tray/mold set consists of an upper (3) and lower (4) mold.
- Remove the screws (1) and (2)
- Remove the upper (3) and lower (4) mold.
- Insert the upper (3) and lower (4) mold.
- Close the tool until the upper (3) and lower (4) dies can center
- Tighten the screws (1) and (2)
- To install an optional locator, replace the screw (2) on the bottom mold with the M4xl5 screw
- Screw the locator (5) onto the tool and, depending on the type of locator, fix it using a hex key or an open-end wrench
- To install an optional stop (7), replace the screw (1) on the upper die with the M4x25 screw
- Holding the wire stopper (7) against the tool, pass the screw (8) through the upper die (4) and secure it with the nut provided.
Crimping procedure
1. Install the mold kit and any accessories (see image below)
2. Strip the cable to the recommended length (check the manufacturer's instructions)
3. According to the cross section, place the connector in the mold or set the right place in the locator and use the tool to clamp the connector. Insert the cable into the connector
4. Close the crimping tool and open it after the last ratchet has passed (forced lock)
Emergency release of the locking mechanism
The force-lock mechanism opens automatically if the crimping procedure is fully completed. Should the crimping procedure need to be interrupted, the locking mechanism can be released by gently pressing the handles together, then unlocking the emergency release using the included hex key.
Setting the crimp height
The crimping force applied by the tool is set at the factory. The hand force applied when the tool is empty is 130-180 N. The crimping jaws/die and the pliers are matched to each other to ensure that this force produces an optimal crimp.
If the crimping results do not meet the specifications set by the connector manufacturer (crimping height, pull-out force), this may have the following causes:
1. Wrong crimp die or wrong crimp cavity - Use the proper crimp die or place the contact in the correct crimp cavity
2. Wrong cable - Use only the cable that is specified by the connector manufacturer
3. Connector wear during crimping - Readjust the crimping force
CAREFUL!
Crimp height should be checked regularly by qualified quality control and calibration personnel as needed using the method described below
1. Using a screwdriver, remove the screw (1). (The washer remains on the screw and is not removed).
2. If the adjustment dial 1 is turned counterclockwise (+), it configures a higher crimp force and a lower crimp height.
3. If the adjustment dial 2 is turned clockwise (-), it configures a weaker crimping force and thus a higher crimping height. Hand force adjustment should not exceed 180N.
4. When using the screw opening 3, it becomes possible to change the crimping force by just one notch. This allows a very fine adjustment of the crimping force.
5. Fasten the screw.
6. Before using the crimp, you must make sure that the adjusting disc is properly fixed with the screw.
