Types of screwdrivers

Flat head screwdriver

The most common type. The tip, shaped like a small chisel, fits into the screw head and allows it to be turned. It can slip sideways if not centered correctly or if too much force is applied, and placing it in the screw groove can be difficult when the groove isn't visible.

Phillips screwdriver

Introduced in the 19th century, with a cross-shaped tip that fits the specific slot on the screw head. It grips better than a flat head and reduces slipping, though at high force it can still damage the screw head.

Pozidriv screwdriver

An evolution of the Phillips design, with four additional profiles that improve grip, force transmission, and reduce the risk of slipping.

Torx screwdriver

Also known as a star screwdriver, with a star-shaped head and six rounded arms. It transmits higher torque without slipping, even with power tools, and Torx screws can be reused many times without damage.

Hex screwdriver

Has a hexagonal profile tip, in various sizes, also available with a ball point for working at an angle. Frequently used in furniture manufacturing, for fastening parts with hex-head screws.

Nut driver

With a hexagonal socket tip, for nuts and hose clamps. Flexible-shaft versions reach tight spaces, for example hose clamps in the engine bay.

VDE screwdriver

An electrically insulated model, tested and certified for live-line work (1000 V), used in electrical installations, panels and modular gear.

Stainless screwdriver

With a stainless steel blade, corrosion-resistant, suitable for electronics and stainless steel equipment.

Choosing the right screwdriver

  • For most household repairs, a set with flat, Phillips and Pozidriv tips covers most situations.
  • For high-torque work or power tools, the Torx profile gives the best force transmission.
  • For furniture and hex-head parts, choose a hex screwdriver in the correct size.
  • For live-line work, choose only a certified VDE screwdriver.
  • For wet environments or stainless equipment, choose a stainless-blade screwdriver.

Key features

Frequently asked questions

What screwdriver brands are available?

Predominantly WERA (Germany), plus VDE insulated KNIPEX screwdrivers, ENGINEER precision screwdrivers (Japan) and Rennsteig tools.

What types of screwdrivers are available?

Flat, Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx and hex, plus nut driver, flexible shaft, VDE and stainless variants.

What is the difference between a Phillips and a Pozidriv screwdriver?

The Pozidriv is an evolution of the Phillips design, with four additional profiles that give a better grip and reduce slipping, especially under high force.

Why doesn't a Torx screwdriver slip like a flat head?

The star-shaped head with six rounded arms transmits higher torque without slipping, even when using a power tool.

What is a VDE screwdriver?

It is an electrically insulated model, tested and certified for live-line work (1000 V), used in electrical installations for protection against electric shock.

What is the Lasertip on WERA screwdrivers?

A laser-treated tip that creates a rough surface, biting into the screw head and reducing slipping during driving

What material are quality screwdrivers made from?

Usually chrome-vanadium or alloy steel, heat-treated for resistance to wear, corrosion and repeated torque forces.

What does a magnetic tip on a screwdriver do?

A magnetic tip holds the screw on the blade, which helps position and drive it in tight spaces without dropping it.

Are they available in stock?

Some are in stock, the rest on order, with fast delivery in Bucharest and across the country.
