Depending on the thickness of the cable, one of the three performance levels of the click mechanism and the associated cutting feed is selected.

Pinion action keeps the cutting edges in place as you get a firmer grip. The user can continue cutting at the exact same point. This results in a consistently clean cut. After the cable is stripped, the ends can be connected without further processing due to the straight cut edges.
